Eyebeam Art & Technology Center Benefit
In collaboration with fluxxlab with Brian Osborn
Eyebeam invited fluxxlab to design a temporary installation/exhibition for their annual benefit and MIXER event. For the first time artists within the program were asked to create specific works for the event in order to show donors what the program is about.
fluxxlab designed a malleable space that would to highlight the work of the artists and way find the happenings throughout the night. The space was left as open as possible to allow for interaction between the various artist works. The key element to the design was a series of latex lanterns that would illuminate to highlight the artists works and serve as a way finding device for events to occur throughout the night. Guests were invited to shape the atmosphere of the space by cuing the light color and intensity of the lanterns, as well as DJ-ing the the sounds of the event.
The design solution was an elegant, economical and sustainable means of creating spectacular effect for a short duration. The entire fixture was created from sheet latex, a CNC milled MDF support and length of steel uni-strut in addition to the rented lighting fixtures. Waste is kept to a minimum with all components recycled after the event.
